Course Description

Tackers 1: Sporting Schools is a program offered over a minimum of 4 sessions. This course is the first step of the ‘learn to sail’ pathway and dives into teaching students the foundations of sailing in a kids-centric environment. The kids develop leadership skills and independence as they progressively learn to manoeuvre their boats in pairs through the activities set out by their qualified Instructors.

Course Outcomes

By the end of Tackers 1: Sporting Schools the children will:

  • Have learned the fundamentals to sail their boat under supervision with a partner
  • Know and understand the basic sailing safety rules and procedures
  • Be able to launch and retrieve their boat
  • Have an in-depth understanding of the different roles within the boat and being able to put them into practice.
  • Understand how to read the wind, tide and weather conditions
  • Be able to right their boat after a capsize
  • Have learned half of the tricks and techniques to sail through Tackers fun and games based approach
  • Understand the freedom and responsibility that sailing provides
