Other Information The Yachting Australia Powerboat Handlers Course is aimed at teaching fun & safe power boating to all age groups (12 years +) from novice to expert and is the minimum qualification for sailing instructors and volunteer safety craft personnel within yacht clubs. This comprehensive 18 hour course is conducted over a weekend Sat & Sun and includes theory & 8 hours of onwater powerboat handling. Subjects covered including trip planning, use of safety equipment, emergency procedures, powerboat launch/recovery, anchoring & coastal navigation using charts. Tuition is provided by Yachting Australia trained powerboat instructors with a focus on hands on learning. Successful completion will provide students with a Transport Safety Victoria training certificate to apply for a Victorian Recreational Powerboat Licence at Vicroads (fees apply).This Yachting Australia course is conducted at St.Kilda harbour and on the waters of Port Phillip in a variety of powerboats up to 6 metres including beach and trailer launched types. Course Description

This Course includes intermediate boat handling skills and seamanship for a variety of boat types.

Pre-Requisites

Applicants for this Course should have completed Start Powerboating or have a similar skill level and background knowledge. The course may be combined with Start Powerboating over a 2 day period.

Course Outcomes

The Course includes boat launching, engines and fuel, types of craft and navigation. It aims to improve boat handling skills at low and planing speeds, all of which may be practised during a short passage.

People that wish to extend their knowledge of Powerboat driving or anyone wishing to gain other Yachting Australia Instructing or Officiating Qualifications
