Other Information The Keelboat "Start Crewing" course is an ideal way to learn to sail a yacht and to take part in regular sailing at a yacht club. This 12 hour course covers steering, crew roles, trimming sails, setting up a yacht, handling ropes & learning knots. The main focus of the course is taught during 3 sailing sessions on Port Phillip on a day sailing yacht with your own onboard instructor. Our Squadron member boat owners are always seeking crew to join them - with many Academy sailing graduates having taken up regular crew positions in our bay and offshore racing fleets. Following our keelboat courses, other students have enjoyed yacht charter holidays with greater skill & confidence. These Keelboat Courses will equip you with the essentials required to safely sail a racing yacht or smaller cruising yacht without the fear of getting wet! As your skills progress, you will also develop an understanding of each personís role and how teamwork plays a major part of being an effective crew. The Academy has three J-Boats keelboats, which are internationally recognised as being excellent for both racing and training. These "day sailing" yachts are fun to sail and easy for students to operate. Fantastic new offer: We are offering a special price of $398 (down from $420) and for a limited time we have added 3 months of sailing membership to the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron with every START CREWING course undertaken by a non - RMYS member. This means you can do a sailing course at RMYS and build on your new skills by sailing at the Squadron in our members yacht fleet for 3 months without paying any day pass fees. This is a limited offer and a great opportunity to learn and sail at Melbourne's premier yacht club, only 5 km's from the City.
