McCrae Laser Easter Regatta

Over the Easter long weekend 21 Lasers braved the conditions to participate in the traditional McCrae Laser Easter Regatta, held over the Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Conditions were challenging to say the least, with conditions ranging from 20-25 knot south-westerlies on Saturday, to 0-5 on Sunday, and a McCrae special on Monday, a beautiful 15 knot northerly with waves to challenge any Sandringham sea breeze.

Results were spread with an even spread of firsts, including laser expert Mark Bulka, local McCrae masters Murray O’Brien and John D’Helin, youth Simon Merritt and even Olympic Bronze Medalist, down from Sydney with his son Mathew.

Entries were spread between all three rigs, with the regatta a great chance for top Laser fleet racing towards the end of the season, especially for youths, with a large turn-out this year, and masters, sailing for prized ‘wooden cubes’ sculpted by Murray O’Brien himself. Hope to see you all there next year for an even better regatta!
